| I have to admit, I am a culprit of this. |
It makes me wonder: what's the fascination with a coming new year? Nothing snazzy ever really happens. The months just repeat themselves. So you grew a little (or so you think). You find yourself putting down '2013' and having to cross it out and replace it with the new year. There's the anticipation of a new year to come, but it simmers down once you get into the routine of the same thing you did last year: go to school, go to work, hang out with the same people. Lather, rinse, repeat.
But then I realize: it's the excitement. You realize that you have a blank slate. 365 days waiting to be filled with new memories, experiences, failures, drawbacks, promotions. 365 days of interacting with the same people, meeting new ones, and letting go of the toxic ones. 365 days of personal growth and realization to come. 365 days to rediscover yourself. 365 days to refine your craft.
365 days closer to achieving your goal/dream, whatever they may be.
Although in the moment, you may not realize the full effect of the experiences you're going through. It is not always the moment itself, but rather, the results of the moment that make all the difference. At the end of the year, you realize just how much has happened, and how you've grown (or regressed) as a person because of it. Reflection plays a big role in embracing a change, the new year being no exception.
Then there's the anticipation of what to do in the coming year. There is always a level of excitement when it comes to planning for something new. Especially when it is largely unknown what is set to come. Kind of like planning for a vacation, starting a new job, moving to a new town, graduating from college, or getting married.
It is exciting, yet equally terrifying; your pick (I always say it's more of a balance).
I can say that I can't wait for the new year. There are so many plans buzzing around my head, I don't know where to start. With the support of my boyfriend and friends, I'm determined to make them happen.
I also found out one of my recent anime obsessions, Sword Art Online is coming out with a second season.
I don't know whether I should jump for joy, or assume the worse.
Now that that's all said and done, what are your hopes for 2014?
Mine is to stop wasting my life away on the internet and go out to enjoy the world a bit more. Even if it's as simple as riding on a bus.
Oh, that and stop procrastinating. (I say that every year....)
